Is solar worth it in Pennsylvania?
For most homeowners the honest answer is 'it depends on your utility.' Pennsylvania's residential rates are moderate, its new net-metering credit is at retail on a monthly basis with an annual settle-up, and there is no active state rebate. Systems that already benefit from retail net metering and the federal credit (for installations in service by the end of 2025) can still pay back on a normal horizon, especially in higher-rate utility territories like PECO and PPL.
Does Pennsylvania have net metering?
Yes. Residential customers can net-meter systems up to 50 kW and larger customers up to at least 3 MW. Surplus kilowatt-hour credits are applied at retail to your next bill, and any leftover credit at year-end is cashed out at the utility's price-to-compare (a low, avoided-cost-like rate) — so it makes sense to size the array to your actual usage.
